THE ORIGINALIST AND POST-SHOW DISCUSSION WITH REV. DR. JONIPHER KWONG | APRIL 23 | 2 P.M.

Join OCA-Greater Los Angeles members, community allies, families and friends for an afternoon performance of The Originalist on Sunday, April 23, 2017, followed by a post-show discussion with prominent AAPI social justice advocates. We have secured a special 35 percent discount for you for this performance; please read below on for purchasing instructions.

About the show: When a bright, liberal law school graduate embarks on a nerve-wracking clerkship with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (1936-2016), she discovers him to be both an infuriating sparring partner and an unexpected mentor. As the country waits for Justice Scalia’s seat to be filled, The Originalist looks into the complexities of one of the most controversial American jurists of all times. This powerful work portrays the passionate people risking heart and soul to defend their interpretation of the truth, and the Constitution.

About our guest speaker: Rev. Dr. Jonipher Kwong is an ordained minister who served as the first Director of API Equality-LA, an LGBTQ rights and racial justice organization founded in 2005.   Rev. Dr. Kwong also holds the distinction along with his longtime partner Chris Nelson as the first couple married in Hawaii after same-sex marriage became legal there in 2013.  He earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Claremont School of Theology in Southern California.  Rev. Dr. Kwong will share his experiences in the struggle for marriage equality as both a leader of faith and a civil rights advocate and perspective on the Supreme Court’s rulings on the same-sex marriage and the impact on our social landscape.

Moderating the program will be Janet Ly, president, OCA-Greater Los Angeles
