Cathay Bank Shows Commitment to Asian American Community with $20K Donation to Civil Rights Advocacy Organization
Honors OCA-Greater Los Angeles’ 25th Anniversary and Annual Image Awards with Visionary Sponsorship
LOS ANGELES, September 27, 2016 – OCA-Greater Los Angeles (OCA-GLA), the Los Angeles chapter of a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the political, social, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), has received a $20,000 Visionary Sponsorship from Cathay Bank for the 25th Annual Image Awards on Friday, September 30, 2016. The Visionary Sponsorship is the highest level of support for Image Awards, one of Los Angeles’ premiere Asian Pacific American community events.
Cathay Bank’s history of service to the immigrant community of Los Angeles aligns closely with OCA-GLA’s 25 year history. Since 1962, Cathay Bank has provided financial services to the growing but underserved Chinese-American community in the greater Los Angeles area, thus becoming the first Chinese-American bank in Southern California. In recognition of the diversity of the community it served, Cathay Bank adopted the motto “An Open Door for All.” With its continued commitment to the immigrant community, Cathay Bank continues to open doors through its support and investment in organizations like OCA-GLA.
“OCA-GLA is honored and thankful for the generous sponsorship from Cathay Bank especially as we celebrate a significant benchmark—our 25th Anniversary,” said Jennifer Chau, OCA-GLA Executive Director. “Every donation we receive enables OCA-GLA to engage in community service projects, voter education, and advocacy efforts around issues involving education, immigration, data disaggregation, and media perception. $20,000 will help us expand our reach and increase the number of people we can serve.”
This year’s OCA-GLA Image Awards honorees include veteran community leader Deborah Ching (Legacy Award); recently retired Artistic Director at East West Players Tim Dang (Creative Pioneer Award); recently retired Arts Education Director at East West Players Marilyn Takuda (Creative Pioneer Award); Tanzila “Taz” Ahmed and Zahra Noorbakhsh of the podcast Good Muslim Bad Muslim (Rising Star Award); American Food Company AFC Soy Food (Business Leadership Award); and public health and affordable housing advocates Thai Community Development Center (Community Spirit Award).
OCA-GLA’s 25th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Image Awards will take place on Friday, September 30, at Ocean Star Seafood located at 145 N. Atlantic Blvd., 2nd floor in Monterey Park. For more information, sponsorship opportunities or to purchase tickets, please visit www.oca-gla.org.
